Considering that the site is called Alexfotografiert.de (which means Alex takes pictures) you might have guessed right that I’m Alex and that I live in Germany. That’s Alexander Sobolla in a longer form. I live in Munich, Germany which is associated with the Beerfest and the Hofbräuhaus abroad and possible with arrogant snobs with too much money in the rest of Germany. Well it’s one of the nicest cities out there and yeah, I was actually born there, a real Münchner Kindl, in December 1981 (although no one can tell from my dialect, a the shame).
I now won’t bore with stories about which Kindergarten I visited. What might be interesting is that I started this website as Alphamaedchen.net and something that is related with film. I still am a massive film buff and made two short films ‘Rundweltmädchen Gesucht!’ and ‘Nur ein Kuss’ (or ‘Boy lost Girl’ and ‘Nur ein Kuss’ in their subtitled versions), some music videos and stuff like that. Guess I wanted to be a filmmaker (and rich and living abroad with a witty pretty brunette) but you cannot have everything. Film takes an amazing effort and needs all the ressources you can get and yeah, I switched to something that is more direct, easier achievable but still very related to 24 pics per second. So I started photography and switched to an SLR in 2008.
So what can you expect from this site? I will show my pictures one by one and will talk a bit about each of them. How I came to shoot it, how it was shot, what I like and what would have liked to do better. Might be fun and helps with my learning curve. I will also write about some equipment, photobooks and other photographers and maybe here and there about film or whatever else that I like. Focus stays on photography though.
Anything else you want to know? Why this site is in English? Well I live in Munich, I’m German and I guess that most readers will speak German as their first language. But I guess that I would leave out more people if it actually was in German than the other way round. And I prefer to write and read in English. I just can’t stand my writing style in my own language so yeah if you don’t like it then ciao, servus und lies was anderes.
If you’re interested in what I’m using for photography: I have a Canon EOS 60D and a couple of lenses I really like. I love my Tokina 12-24mm wideangle and mostly shoot stuff with a Sigma 30mm F1.4 lens (since it’s so close to full frame 50mm and really fast) and I generally prefer fixed lenses for various reasons. I aso have a Canon 50mm 1.8, a Tamron 60mm 2.0 and a few more lenses. My old favourite was a Tamron 28-75 2.8. As you can see I don’t like mega zooms but instead something fast that gets me close to stuff. My number 2 is a Canon G11 (in brown leather which makes it look like a camera my Grandparents might have used) a quite reliable thingy that I should take with me more often.
I could go on about software too but I don’t want to write forever. I prefer to shoot people so if you want a pic of you then contact me. And I like comments or some feedback. Yeah that’s it then. Have fun reading my page. Viel Spaß!
